The EU accession process has brought about the idea of regionalism and certain micro-regional
and regional aspects of the more global issues, and the urge to seek and develop solutions at
these levels.
Peoples of the Carpathian region share a common past and are looking forward to a probable
common future. Yet, this region is a very inhomogeneous social and geographic environment,
and its intriguing regional relationships are worthwhile of a thorough analysis.
The social context of the region requires a system that not only collects and connects
information available from many different sources, but also allows for the comparative analysis
of their geographic and physical peculiarities.
The system allows for analyses that focus mainly on spatial relationships and
reveals their major characteristics. Therefore, we made available to our users through the
Internet the administrative map of the settlements within the Carpathian region.
As a starting point, the system contains all the major basic data that
allow for spatial analyses and comparative statistical tables. Moreover, our users will be
able in the future to add to the system new information that are relevant for the respective
administrative units.
The system ensures that all major information of public interest are fast and
easily accessible, while those with particular interest in the field, such as specialists and
university students will be able to use a complex analysis system.
